The Up River Café was born in October of 2001. Owner, Daniel King, served as general manager of
several restaurants in San Francisco for the Real Restaurant Group
and for The Plumpjack Restaurant Group. The Up River Café
represents his vision for a classic neighborhood bistro. It offers
friendly and attentive service, meals prepared simply and from
fresh ingredients found locally, bartenders with an understanding
of the nuances of classic cocktails, and a unique and ever-changing
wine list highlighting boutique American wineries.
The Up River Café is situated on the banks of the Pawcatuck
River in Downtown Westerly. Inside, beautiful high windows invite
sunlight in the afternoons and moonlight reflections at night.
This contrasts beautifully with the restaurant’s warm dark
brick, natural wood interior, and elegant, yet understated, table
settings. In one of three dining rooms, in the cocktail bar, or
on the outdoor patio, guests may enjoy a three-course meal accompanied
by a bottle of their favorite wine or perhaps entertain a Classic
Burger with French Fries, an Old Fashioned Root Beer Float, and
a bottle of their favorite micro-brew. We have always aimed to
make either experience equally as enjoyable.
